SIGHTS AND SOUNDS Of URBAN CYCLOCROSS #2NOV13

This was, according to all indications, a muddy trip. Especially if you were coming from the north, this trip was wet. It was quite different south of Los Angeles. It was especially impressive when you drove down Palos Verdes Drive towards the coast. It was a beautiful, crisp view of Catalina Island. It almost made you want to swim. The perfect course conditions and the cool fall temperatures made for some intense racing.

CALLING ALL MOUNTAIN BIKERS
More mountain bikers need to be riding mountain bikes. We all know that cyclocross requires drop bars, 700c wheels, and 32mm Grifos. However, a mountain bike can still be competitive. Even full suspension bikes can be competitive. As long as the bars are removed, any mountain bike is legal. To be competitive, you must however run narrow semi-slicks. Mountain bike semi-slicks are becoming scarce. They are still available in the Kenda catalog. The Kenda Kozmik Lite II is our favorite tire this year. This 4 cm semi-slick is a slim 390g. The 487g Kenda Kwick is another good choice, and it’s available for a sweet price.

Three days remain until the next So Cal cyclocross at Buena Vista Park, Vista, CA (near Oceanside). Information is available at www.celopacific.org. Cyclocross is a great way to get your heart pumping.
